Professional statement

Kristina Altomari is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Boston, MA. Kristina enjoys helping clients experience decreased anxiety, improved confidence and coping resources during times of stress and transition, and working with young people who are finding the transition into adulthood challenging. Many of Kristina’s clients feel overwhelmed at the thought of their daily routines. They also have anxiety about making important decisions such as what to major in at school, where to find their first job, and how to set their lives up. Kristina supports clients whose mental health takes them to dark places, and partners with them to give them hope to build a future where they feel more connected to themselves and others, more comfortable in their own skin, and more in touch with a sense of meaning and joy in their lives.

Kristina approaches therapy from a client-centered perspective. She collaborates with clients as they lead the conversation, allowing them to talk about whatever is on their mind. She invites clients to talk openly about their feelings, thoughts, plans, and their current roadblocks. Kristina integrates principles from evidence-based therapy modalities called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), offering clients useful coping skills that can de-escalate distress. Kristina teaches clients how to ground themselves, communicate more clearly with others, and interrupt and shift harmful thought patterns. Clients leave therapy with tools to use in their daily lives as they work on managing their emotions.

Kristina earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston College School of Social Work. She provides individualized therapy services for clients, and takes a strengths-based lens to her interactions. She believes that everyone functions with best intentions, and helps clients identify and internalize their personal strengths.

Message to clients

I help anxious and overwhelmed individuals navigate life stress, flourish in life transitions, and heal from painful experiences. You may be a young adult navigating a new life phase, you may be experiencing grief and loss, or you may be working through trauma. You may simply be looking to shift habits that are negatively affecting your life. All of these needs can be challenging to face alone, which is why working together in the context of a therapeutic alliance can be so helpful.

Are you looking for a partner to work with you and help guide you through your healing process? You may find yourself looking for support through a challenging life phase or internal conflict, new or ongoing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns, or you may be looking to change habits that can be negatively affecting your life. All of these needs can be challenging to face alone, which is why working together in the context of a therapeutic alliance can be so helpful.
