Professional statement

Lauren Berget is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Metairie, LA. She works primarily with adolescents. Many of Lauren’s clients come in when they feel overwhelmed with school, sports, family, social life, or especially when a combination of all those things are piling up. Lauren is particularly passionate about serving teens who face symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as high school student athletes.

Lauren is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which uses the notion that for every situation we experience in life, we have automatic thoughts which influence how we feel and how we act. In session, Lauren focuses on exploring this connection between a client's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach supports clients to recognize rational from irrational thought patterns and learn to replace unhelpful thought patterns with helpful ones.

Lauren's style is a collaborative one. When a client first comes in, we will discuss the client's goals and history with counseling. Together, we will work to provide the client an enhanced, healthy life that can be maintained without the need of ongoing counseling services.

Lauren received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Tulane University and her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of New Orleans. She gained experience at KIPP Renaissance High School, Ben Franklin High School, and The Willow School of New Orleans, which enables her to relate with students at a variety of New Orleans area schools. Outside of private practice, she coaches high school girls soccer, as well as plays in several adult soccer leagues.

Message to clients

Whether you are a teenager seeking help for yourself, or a parent seeking help for your child, I see you. As a former high school counselor, my goal is to support high school students become better versions of themselves. High school is an incredibly formative time in life, and many adults don't seem to appreciate just how difficult it can be.

Whether you are a student athlete questioning your motivation for continuing your sport, maybe wondering about what the future holds for you, or whether you're just an average teenager feeling overwhelmed with life right now, I hope I can help.

I would love to meet with you to see if I am a good fit to help work through this challenging phase of life!
