Laurie is a clinical psychologist with twenty-five years of experience counseling, teaching, and supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families. She specializes in mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy - empirically-supported, effective strategies for managing stress, anxiety, depression, connecting with others, and taking challenges in stride.
Laurie has a BA in developmental psychology and secondary education from Duke University. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Vermont, where she focused on child and adolescent mental health, specializing in parenting and school success. She also works extensively with adults of all ages. She received her certification as a Mindfulness Educator from Mindful Schools. She has worked within public and private schools, hospitals, and outpatient clinics, focusing on increasing life satisfaction, decreasing stress, and improving relationships.
Sessions are 60 minutes long, available either in person or telehealth.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Parenting - Helping parents develop and implement strategies to address challenges that arise throughout childrearing; managing stress and increasing support
Stress management - Strengthening effective ways of coping with the stress of life and change; managing expectations of self and others
Emotion regulation - Learning how to effectively manage the ups and downs of intense emotions; developing coping skills to use in a variety of settings to calm oneself and to give an appropriate amount of space to emotions
Mind-body connection - Practicing mindfulness to draw together how the body feels physically and how the mind feels mentally; healing both physically and mentally
