Linda Robertson, LMFT, helps couples dealing with disconnection and repetitive, unproductive, painful conflict patterns. She also helps individuals who want to learn more about how to have healthy relationships, and provides premarital counseling.
Her approach is a combination of the Gottman Method and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT. The Gottman Method was created by Dr. John Gottman and his wife Dr. Julie Gottman, and is based on his 25 years of empirical research into the outcomes of relationships over time. This research tells us "what do to and how to do it". ACT is all about our values, and provides the vital, activating component of "why we do it."
After graduating from Cambridge University, UK she worked as a writer in London before moving to San Francisco in 2000. There, she published a memoir about dysfunctional relationships while obtaining her MS degree from San Francisco State University (licensed MFT since 2010). She then worked with children and parents, giving her an in-depth understanding of family dynamics. Outside her private practice, she works part-time for an adult mental health clinic, where she leads classes in relationship skills. In 2021, she launched the fun, educational puppet series "Cardboard Couples Therapy."
Linda is based in San Francisco and sessions are conducted online only. She offers weekend, late afternoon and early evening sessions. She does not accept insurance but does provide superbills (receipts) that clients can present to their insurance for potential reimbursement. Individual sessions are 50 minutes in length ($200), while sessions for couples are recommended, per Gottman Method, to be 1.5 therapeutic hours, or 80 minutes ($300).
