Professional statement

Dr. Lucia Ferri-Martin is a psychologist in SoHo, NYC who works with both individuals and couples and specializes in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and coping with chronic medical conditions.

The majority of her clients are highly successful men and women with anxiety, many of whom come to her after struggling with panic attacks. Once the burden of the panic has been shifted through therapy, she continues to work with them to explore other underlying issues.

While Dr. Ferri-Martin’s approach primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), she also incorporates elements of Psychodynamic and Mindfulness-based therapeutic techniques. She provides psychoeducation to help her clients understand their symptoms. Once they have a better understanding and management of their symptoms, she can then help them develop the skills they need to begin or improve relationships, succeed at work, travel, and/or achieve other specific goals. She has also worked with clients on managing difficulties with attention and working through the things that disrupt their work life or family and romantic relationships.

When working through trauma Dr. Ferri-Martin often starts sessions with emotion management, breathing and relaxation, regulating feelings of anxiety in the body. Rather than jumping right into discussing trauma, she works with her clients to develop a safe zone within the client-therapist relationship and conducts substantial psychoeducation about how trauma affects the body. She received her PhD from Fordham University and her BA from New York University. Her office is conveniently located near the Prince Street and Broadway-Lafayette Street subway stations.
