Professional statement

Marcus Silverman is a Licensed Psychoanalyst offering individual therapy, psychoanalysis, and couples counseling in the West Village, Manhattan. He works with mostly young-to-middle-aged professionals as they navigate high-pressure job environments, relationships/marriage, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Marcus helps his clients to find clarity, experience relief from anxiety and depression, better understand themselves, and make decisions that reflect their true values.

As a faculty member at several psychoanalytic institutes, Marcus is a highly experienced psychoanalyst, and offers sessions multiple times a week for clients who are ready to take a deep dive into their history and inner world. He also works with people on a short-to-medium term basis in the service of symptom relief and resolution. Additionally, he specializes in working with couples and families, including couples who are processing an infidelity and are looking for a way to move forward.

Marcus enjoys working with adolescents and adults of all ages to uncover the depth of their experiences and guide them towards overcoming obstacles that prevent them from living fuller, more meaningful lives. His office is conveniently located in the West Village, one block south of Washington Square Park, nearby the Washington Square Park and Bleecker Street metro stations.

Message to clients

Psychotherapy is a practice of putting our interior lives into language — the things we generally have a difficult time speaking are often the things that cause us to suffer, feel depressed, or create anxiety in our lives. Many people find that creating space in our day-to-day lives to speak and to be heard by a thoughtful, compassionate, curious, and interested professional alleviates these negative experiences and allows us to live fuller, more complex and more meaningful lives. My work centers around creating a serious, interesting, useful, and safe space to begin exploring the depths of what causes you to suffer, or the things that one cannot yet speak that create a feeling of being trapped, stuck, or blocked.

Therapist's note

As part of my practice, I do not charge for consultations should they result in us deciding not to work together, so we may begin to explore treatment in a way that doesn’t feel overly-committal. We might discuss what brings you to treatment and your history, the fee, any questions or concerns you have about psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, or me, of course. My fee is generally flexible and I work hard to accommodate, treat and refer all patients in any/all financial circumstances.
