Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC Registered Yoga Teacher, RYT Certified Yoga InstructorMarissa Tolero (she/her) is a licensed psychotherapist and certified yoga instructor with a virtual private practice in New York State. She specializes in LGBTQIA+ matters, women’s obstacles, and race and identity issues. Her work entails deconstruction of white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and colonization as they relate to identity.
Marissa’s practice is holistic and unique in that she integrates talk therapy, yoga, and meditation into every session. She utilizes therapeutic approaches such as compassion-focused therapy, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Marissa received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine and her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from the City College of New York. She obtained her 200-hour yoga teacher certification from Three Sisters Yoga and is currently in training for a 300-hour certification. In her previous role as a therapist on a college campus in Queens, she launched a health and wellness program for LGBTQIA+ students which she presented at two national conferences. She also helped open the campus' first LGBTQIA+ resource center and led the college's only LGBTQIA+ therapy group.

Perfectionism - Coping with feelings of anxiety, stress, self-criticism, and procrastination; addressing unrealistic expectations of one’s self and negatively comparing self to others
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
