Professional statement

As a Marriage & Family therapist, Nadia Kellow of Journey to Counseling works with clients experiencing infertility, anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, and life changes or transitions. Nadia offers Individual and Couples Therapy to help clients learn the necessary skills and improve their lives. She is a supportive service-provider to her clients, ensuring they feel understood, accepted as they are, and to be heard in a non-judgmental way.

Nadia specializes in the infertility journey, as that could be a long and lonely journey for individuals and couples. The experience associated with infertility can bring about feelings of grief and loss that are often difficult to process alone. One of the factors that make those emotions even harder to process is not being able to talk about them; the shame, secrecy, and isolation that come with this struggle can impact your overall mental health. Infertility can be traumatic. Couples who are experiencing infertility will experience anxiety due to certain circumstances or triggers such as seeing pregnant woman, kids, etc.

Couples also may experience intense emotions around the holidays or gatherings with friends and family. Experiencing sadness and grief are very common especially if the experience involved any kind of loss.

People who have been through infertility treatment often talk about how stressful the journey is. It is an experience that can have an impact on both partners, as well as their relationship. It includes feeling hurt, confused, worried, stressed and overwhelmed in general.

Message to clients

Throughout my life, I was surrounded by close people who struggled with infertility, and I witnessed how this experience can have a big negative impact on their mental health. That helped me to be able to connect and empathize easily with people who are going through this journey.

Infertility journey can cause lots of painful emotions and feelings, such as stress, anxiety, shame, blame, grief, loss, and trauma. Also, can include fear of the unknown and overwhelming feelings that go hand to hand with this journey which are a lot for one person or a couple to deal with them every single day alone.

In spite of those painful and challenging emotions, you are told by everyone to stay strong and positive. No one can imagine how hard and challenging that can be. When you tell them it is difficult to do that, they judge you being weak and not positive enough and they will start to advice you what to do.

I am here, and I can help provide you the space you need. Therapy will give you the chance to have your own place allowing you to be yourself without feeling judged, guilty or ashamed, but feeling understood, heard and listened to. The important thing in this journey is asking for help. It is really a lot to take alone.
