Psychologist, PhD Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsDr. Orly Arviv is a Licensed Psychologist located in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Arviv has over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field. She works with individuals, couples, and families as they face difficulties coping with their emotions and moving past painful life experiences. Many of Dr. Arviv’s clients feel that they can’t find a sense of peace, which might lead to addictions, codependency, toxic relationships, compulsive behaviors or just an ongoing feeling of dissatisfaction.
Dr. Arviv specializes in the treatment of unresolved emotional injuries from childhood, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and grief. In therapy, clients gain insight and shift outdated coping mechanisms, such as addiction, codependency, self-blame, worry and compulsive behaviors. She also treats acute trauma, that can result from accidents, medical care, interpersonal or community violence.
Dr. Arviv is certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. This therapy approach leverages the mind-body connection to treat trauma and learn the implicit language of the body. Dr. Arviv helps clients learn how to work directly with their nervous systems to reduce the symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, or dissociation. This therapy can also help improve relationships, as individuals learn how to cope with distress in more healthy ways and also learn to deeply embody boundaries and self-connection. Dr. Arviv integrates various modalities in therapy including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and mindfulness practices into her therapy sessions. Clients explore their inner thoughts, learning more about the origins of their beliefs, assumptions and needs.
Dr. Arviv earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She studied Sensorimotor Psychotherapy at the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. Her mind-body approach to healing can help those who have tried traditional talk therapy but still seem stuck in their challenging emotional reactions and difficulties in relationships.
