Professional statement

Pamela von Kleist is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker located in Greenville, SC. She supports both individuals and couples who struggle with intense emotions like depression, anxiety, and grief. Many of her clients previously experienced traumatic events, like abuse or being in a relationship with a narcissist, which lead to overwhelming feelings of fear and danger. They seek therapy to find strategies to reduce the negative impacts of their mental health on their everyday lives.

Pamela’s main approach to working with clients is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a therapy modality that stimulates the brain in a way to help it reprocess painful or distressing memories. She also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), teaching clients how to promote self-positive thought patterns. Often, as a result of their trauma, her clients become stuck in negative self-talk, which can lead to low self-esteem and low self-worth. Pamela helps these clients to recognize how their thoughts influence their emotions and their actions, and how to break out of those patterns.

Pamela earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. She has nearly 25 years of experience working as a social worker, and she welcomes all clients, especially those with diverse backgrounds. Her goal is to provide each client with a secure space to talk through difficult thoughts and feelings, and to find healing so they can move forward.

Message to clients

Asking for help is not always easy. However, it is the first step towards feeling better and leading a happier, healthier life. Mental health is an important part of overall wellbeing. One of the main reasons people seek therapy is to find solutions to long-standing problems and ultimately, to break unhealthy patterns and make lasting change. Therapy can be a place to learn about yourself, to gain perspective, and to learn new ways of thinking about and interacting with the world. There are risks and benefits to treatment. You may experience increased distress when addressing challenging aspects of your life. The process of therapy may cause uncomfortable or painful feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, or frustration. Counseling may bring up painful memories. I want to create a safe place for you to talk about your problems without fear of criticism or judgement. Change may be difficult but is possible even if the obstacles seem unsurmountable. The benefits of psychotherapy depend on the issue(s) being addressed and may include improved relationships, improved communication skills, improved coping skills, clearer personal goals, ability to set boundaries, increased confidence, resolving past experiences, decreased levels of anxiety and depression, and increased self-acceptance. I am sensitive and respect differences of opinions, values, and attitudes of various cultures and religions. Psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between your clinician and you. Due to the variety of factors that impact outcomes, no specific outcomes can be guaranteed at the outset of treatment.
