Professional statement

Patrick Powers is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and PhD candidate in Clinical Sexology based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and offering Telehealth services in Utah, Idaho, Kansas, and Oklahoma. His primary expertises are Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, sexuality, and the overlap between the two.

His approach is Cognitive-Behaviorally based and heavily influenced by attachment theory and principles of sex therapy and Positive Psychology. Exposure and Response Prevention will be used to address OCD but never without accounting for the context of a client’s life and the universal human needs so important for recovery.

His clients find him to be warm, exceptionally nonjudgmental, and fearless in candidly discussing even the most distressing sorts of issues, at least one client remarking that “absolutely no topic seems to phase him.”

Message to clients

Intrusive, anxiety-provoking thoughts about hurting others? Pedophilia? Incest? Relationships? Religion? Existential issues? No problem at all. You will not surprise, shock, or horrify me. These sorts of things are most of my practice.

Feel ashamed of who you are sexually or anxious about sexual health issues? Again, right up my alley.

Have a sense that life just isn’t where you’d like it to be and need someone to help you explore options for building the kind of life you most want? I’m pretty good at that too.

If I sound like I might be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you :)
