Doctor of Psychology, PsyDDr. Paul Daanen is a clinical psychologist currently accepting new telehealth patients across 34 states. He specializes in the treatment of difficulties associated with both childhood and adult onset trauma.
Dr. Daanen has received specialized training in multiple approaches to trauma focused psychotherapy but uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy as his primary approach. EMDR often sees positive results in less time than other therapies. This approach has strong scientific backing for its effectiveness and has been endorsed by multiple US and international organizations (Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense (VA/DoD) Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of PTSD, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), the World Health Organization, the United Kingdom's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, and the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council).
Dr. Daanen has worked with a wide variety of people, to include Active Duty military, first responders, sexual assault survivors as well as many people who have suffered a legacy of emotional abuse and/or neglect that still impacts them to this day.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Healing painful experiences and memories from the past
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Childhood trauma - Learning how traumatic events in childhood can translate into adulthood; processing through difficult memories with the goal of moving past the experience and lingering symptoms
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) - Recovering from the impact of long-term, repeated traumatic events, such as emotional abuse and neglect
Veterans' issues - Coping with reactions of exposure to life-threatening or traumatic events; supporting veterans and their families adjusting to civilian life
