Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, CADC Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, LCPC Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsPeter Vandersteen offers telehealth appointments only. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Idaho. Peter works with adults (18+) who feel they are struggling to manage their lives effectively because of their anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma backgrounds. This may include intense self-doubt, which can negatively impact their relationships, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness. He also helps clients with substance use disorders, grief after a significant loss, and men’s issues.
Peter’s approach to therapy begins with growing a client’s understanding of the self. His goal is to teach clients how to lead a healthy relationship with the self so they can live authentically and according to their personal values, which can improve their relationships. He practices a therapy approach called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which helps individuals move past painful memories that often lead to emotional reactions. He also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), two thoughts-based therapy approaches that promote healthy patterns.
Peter earned a Master’s degree in Addiction Studies from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. He has over 12 years of experience working in the mental health field and also holds a certificate in EMDR from the EMDR International Association. His style is validating and curious, providing clients with the support they need to improve their lives.
