Professional statement

Shera Baker is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Providence, RI who sees a broad range of clients, including individuals with substance use issues, anxiety, grief, and depression. Many of Shera’s clients are adults who are navigating a challenging life change, like going through a breakup, becoming a parent, or starting/graduating college. She also loves working with older adults.

Shera utilizes goal-oriented therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy to help her clients manage their symptoms and improve their day-to-day lives. She works with them to identify their triggers and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Shera takes a team-oriented approach and frequently works with psychiatrists and primary care providers to ensure her clients are receiving care for all of their mental and physical needs.

Shera is passionate about her work and cares about each of her clients. She takes the time to understand their background and stories and ultimately wants to help individuals realize their true potential. Her office is located in Downtown Providence, near the University of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales, and Brown University.

Message to clients

It’s often considered taboo to talk about mental health in many cultures and, or communities. Mental Health is stigmatized, viewed as a sign of weakness, inadequacy, abnormality making it feel very embarrassing or uncomfortable to talk about. It’s not and it’s very common and very healthy of individuals. I offer a safe, confidential, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment for you to address your individual mental health needs. I am currently taking new patients for individual psychotherapy. Please call, or even email me, to schedule an appointment to determine if I am a good fit for you as your therapist. I accept Neighborhood Health, United Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Tufts insurances. I offer a sliding scale for private pay.
