Group Therapist

Yash Shankar is a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York, NY. Yash works with young adults and adults in both individual and couples settings. She is passionate about providing the LGBTQ population with affirming mental health services. Her speciality is supporting clients through loss and reconnection. Many of Yash’s clients have lost their sense of self and wish to live more authentically. They want to realign their life choices, relationships, and routines around what feels meaning for them. Sometimes, they aren’t able to do this because of grief, chronic illness, or burnout.

Yash strives to provide clients with a nonjudgmental, comforting place to talk about their stories. She takes the grief journey alongside her clients, helping them face the often scary emotions that come with major change. Yash practices meaning-centered psychotherapy and Complicated Grief Therapy, as well as Emotion Focused Therapy. Her therapy is trauma-informed, as she encourages clients to work through their feelings at their own pace so as not to push them into fear reactions.

Yash earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University. She recognizes the many ways that systems of oppression impact people’s daily lives, and takes social justice and feminist lenses to mental health.
