Thao (pronounce "Tao") Tran is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner located in Bethesda, MD who works with young adults and adults. Often, her clients face intense emotions stemming from mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, or burnout. They might feel like they can’t make useful changes in their lives despite trying, or that they’re no longer connected to their friends and family like before. These experiences can have origins in past or present trauma or due to ongoing major life transitions, such as starting or finishing school, changing careers, or going through different relationship stages.
Thao enjoys working with clients who begin therapy to find a better path in their lives, to learn how to ground themselves despite life obstacles. Her approach in sessions includes psychotherapy and medication management, giving clients extensive and comprehensive mental health care that sees them as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. Thao practices psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy, which encourages clients to reflect on their instinctual patterns and how those grew from formative experiences and relationships. She also incorporates cognitive coping skill and mindfulness practices to help clients feel more grounded while they explore their inner worlds and learn how to find mindful moments in their busy days.
Thao studied at George Washington University and completed different fellowships at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis as well as the Contemporary Freudian Society. She has rich experience in the healthcare setting and brings her expertise and empathy to sessions, helping clients to better their lives and learn more about themselves.
