Professional statement

Dr. Wu is a Harvard-trained, board-certified psychiatrist based in Coolidge Corner, Brookline, MA, offering both in-person and telehealth appointments. He works with adults navigating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, with particular experience supporting young professionals, students, and entrepreneurs experiencing career burnout and its overlap with mental health.

Dr. Wu believes psychiatric care works best when it's built around the individual rather than a standardized protocol. He takes the time to understand each patient's circumstances, such as work demands and navigating complicated relationships and works with them to figure out what combination of approaches will actually help, whether that means lifestyle changes, additional accountability, therapy, medication management, or some combination of the above.

He is experienced in evidence-based treatment for the full range of psychiatric conditions, and equally comfortable going beyond standard approaches when a patient's circumstances call for it. His background includes both private practice and high-acuity settings, including residential and inpatient care for substance use and psychiatric stabilization. This experience informs how he approaches diagnostically complex cases.

Dr. Wu aims to be available to his patients when they need him most, including timely appointments during difficult periods. He also provides second-opinion psychiatric consultations.

Message to clients

Whether you're looking to work on your mental health for the first time or have worked with other providers before, I'd love to talk with you.

My approach is centered around getting to know you as a person. Not just your diagnosis, but your life, your goals, and what's actually getting in the way. I see patients more frequently than a typical psychiatric practice, which means our sessions can serve two things: therapy plus the opportunity to adjust medications more responsively as we learn what helps and what doesn't.

I keep my practice small for sooner appointment check-ins and to allow for time to speak with patients outside of their sessions if needed for clinical reasons. You're not waiting three months for your next check-in.

My style in sessions is active and casual. I want our time together to be engaging, useful, and sometimes even fun!

If any of this sounds like what you're looking for, I'd love to set up a free 15-minute call to talk and see if it's a good fit. Feel free to reach out by phone or email.

Specialties

Combined medication management and therapy - I can see patients for combined medication management and therapy, which may be more convenient for individuals seeking both treatment modalities.

Academic challenges - The root causes of academic challenges may lie in properly treating mental health conditions, though a non-medication approach through improving organization and goal-setting may be equally helpful.

ADHD - Since there are many other conditions that may mimic ADHD and also cause issues related to inattention, I try to evaluate my patients and thoughtfully consider other conditions that may require treatment that will help with inattention and distractibility.

Trauma - Trauma impacts the brain in many ways. The impacts of trauma leading to symptoms that resemble other psychiatric conditions is very common, and as a result, I try to provide trauma-informed care to ensure optimal treatment and minimize over-reliance on medications.

Bipolar disorder - Bipolar disorder is a difficult-to-treat condition, and often can have overlapping diagnoses and may be frequently mis-diagnosed. I try to first thoroughly evaluate any prior diagnoses of bipolar disorder and rule out alternative conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, and trauma-related conditions such as PTSD.
