Dr. Kathryn Smith is a Psychologist located in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Smith is passionate about working with parents, especially those who feel overwhelmed by the amount of responsibility they have for their children, partners, family members, friends, and coworkers. These clients want to take care of themselves but place their own wellbeing so far down the priority list that they never take action for self-care. This can result in burnout and stress. Often, the strong emotions that arrive as part of adulthood tap into difficult feelings from childhood or adolescence, even trauma. Trying to cope with the multiple demands on top of these heavy emotions leads to unhealthy habits.
Dr. Smith uses her own experience as a parent to help clients understand that they aren’t alone in their fatigue or frustration. She practices a wide range of evidence-based therapies that help clients cope with distress and practice self-care in a sustainable, effective way. Dr. Smith’s goal is that clients reflect on their values and begin living closer to those values. She encourages clients to think about what’s important to them and what adds meaning to their lives, and then take active steps towards incorporating those values into their routines. She also helps clients process through past traumas and reflect on their pasts to gain insight into how they’re living their current lives.
Dr. Smith earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University. She completed her postdoctoral training at Yale University Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry and at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Medical Center. She is an experienced, caring psychologist who enjoys working with clients to find a greater sense of balance in busy lives.
