Professional statement

Dr. Allison Silvers is a licensed clinical psychologist. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford after completing an APA-accredited internship. Allison has experience working in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings providing therapy and conducting psychological assessments.

Allison enjoys working with all ages of adults within individual therapy. Allison’s approach to providing therapeutic services is based on the unique needs of each individual. Making sure therapy is collaborative and growth oriented is important to Allison. Therefore, she utilizes an integrative approach to treatment, with emphasis on person-centered and cognitive behavioral strategies. It is through this combination of therapy approaches that an individual receiving therapy feels heard, understood, and begins to make positive change in thinking and behavioral patterns in daily life. Allison welcomes all individuals, whether it be LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, or other marginalized groups.

Allison also specializes in psychological testing and assessments, which provide diagnostic clarity and offer insight into what is at the root of mental health symptoms. Psychological assessment can help guide treatment recommendations within medication management or a therapy setting. They can give insight into such areas as cognitive abilities, symptoms, and aspects of personality. For students, often times a picture of an individual's functioning in these areas may open doors for academic accommodations to help the student succeed academically.

Allison offers assessments for ages 6 years and older for a variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, attentional disorders (ADHD), personality disorders, and depression.

Individual appointments are offered remotely via a secure video platform to those who are located in Rhode Island or a PSYPACT state for the appointment. Testing appointments are in-person.

Message to clients

The decision to participate in psychotherapy can bring up mixed emotions, just as with other important and impactful life decisions and events. Exciting and perhaps a bit scary at the same time. As a therapist I hope to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable discussing your thoughts and concerns. For me, it is important that we work collaboratively to help you achieve better mental health and overall well-being. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy, including person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based strategies. Through these techniques it is my hope that you become empowered to reach your full potential. I have worked with many clients who have shared with me the immense ways in which they suffer. I have also seen so much positive change that happens when someone has hope that things can get better for them and the confidence to take the first step on their journey. I truly feel everyone has the potential to grow and heal. I would love to help guide you during this process. I always feel a sense of gratitude and privilege in being part of someone's therapeutic journey. I look forward to hearing from you, and if it seems we might work well together I look forward to being part of your journey.
