Professional statement

Andrew Leonard is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who provides individual psychotherapy services to adults in RI and GA. Andrew specializes in working with adults (18+) who are experiencing challenges related to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and managing stress. Andrew is passionate about working with others to promote the meaningful change they are seeking.

Andrew draws from multiple evidence-based treatment modalities, dependent upon an individual’s personality, what the client is struggling with, and what they would likely respond to best. Some of the more common approaches Andrew utilizes include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Andrew believes having a multi-faceted approach allows him to better tailor his treatment approach to each person’s individual needs.

Andrew offers an easy going and relaxed treatment approach that allows people to feel comfortable, at ease, and free from judgment. Psychotherapy with Andrew is very much a collaborative effort in which the client always has final say on what the area of focus is and what the treatment goals are. Andrew believes that small steps towards desired goals will always add up to significant progress in the long run, and, therefore, will always work with clients at the rate they are comfortable with. Andrew believes that everyone is capable of meaningful change, and is committed to helping every client he works with to achieve that goal.

Due to the current COVID pandemic, Andrew is offering online psychotherapy only at this time. However, this will continue to be monitored, and in-person sessions will also be available once it is deemed appropriate and safe for all. Andrew is committed to ensuring he is the right fit for those he will be working with, and offers free phone or video consultations upon request.

Message to clients

Coming into therapy can be an extremely difficult decision. As such, the respect and appreciation I have for the courage it takes to reach out for help and to allow yourself to be vulnerable in therapy is immeasurable. The responsibility that comes along with this as a psychotherapist is something I will never take lightly or lose sight of. Therefore, I am 100% committed to the work we undergo together and will always aspire to offer a treatment environment in which you feel comfortable, respected, and valued at all times by a competent and empathic professional.

Our work together will always be a collaborative effort. If you find that you are having trouble believing in yourself, know that I do, and that we will work to get you to the point where you do as well. I truly believe that every human being is capable of making positive, meaningful changes, even when it may be challenging to believe this initially—all it takes is a small amount of willingness and open-mindedness to build upon. The fact that you are even reading this right now shows that you have both of these already.

Whenever you feel ready, please do not hesitate to reach out to chat a bit about any questions you may have or just to see if we are the right fit.
