Dr. Chuck La Chance is a licensed clinical psychologist living in Chicago, IL. He works with adult individual therapy clients, including young and older adults. Many of Chuck's clients begin therapy to address concerns related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, identity-related concerns, self-esteem, and generational trauma. Chuck is especially passionate about working with clients who hold LGBTQ+ identities, who are graduate/professional students or psychology trainees, and who identify as neurodivergent. Chuck's clinical areas of interest include LGBTQ+ identities, autism/ADHD, adult children of alcoholics, and grief and loss.
Chuck utilizes an Interpersonal/Relational approach to therapy, which emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client as a core part of the therapy process, and draws from his training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to provide interventions that address the client's need for specific skills and strategies.
Chuck's approach to therapy is compassionate, interactive, and insight oriented - providing empathic support to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship while challenging thought and behavior patterns that have created obstacles to one's well-being, facilitating the development of skills to more effectively respond to emotions and decrease distress, and supporting an improved relationship with yourself and with others. Chuck's goal in therapy is to build a therapeutic relationship that supports openness and honesty while exploring how your life experiences, relationships, and personal and social identities have contributed to your concerns.
Chuck received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has over 18 years of experience in diverse clinical settings including a university counseling center, a behavioral health hospital PHP/IOP, and private practice. In addition to appointments in his Chicago office, Chuck offers telehealth therapy sessions to clients seeking remote therapy support and is a PSYPACT provider.
