Professional statement

Claire Hagerty is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Providence, RI, who also offers Telehealth sessions via video or phone. She specializes in anxiety, trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, and depression. She also has particular expertise in addiction, and welcomes clients who are at various stages of the recovery process to her practice.

Clients may come to see Claire for general stressors, and wind up uncovering unprocessed trauma through their work together. Claire's training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help clients to understand the ripple effects of their experiences in order to understand how they affect them on a wider level. She also utilizes EMDR, as well as motivational interviewing and psycho-education, for clients facing substance use concerns and compulsive behaviors. This collaborative approach empowers clients to decide their comfort levels with the pace and nature of treatment in therapy.

Claire strives to help her clients resolve stressors rooted in the past in order to create a more peaceful present. She looks forward to welcoming you and working with you on this journey.

Message to clients

If you are struggling, you do not have to go it alone. I draw on various interests and techniques to tailor my approach for each client. We can work on resolving difficulties from the past while learning how to create more peace now.

I listen empathically, and gently confront and challenge clients when they are ready. Therapy should be a safe environment where you can push yourself to explore new ways of thinking.

My areas of clinical interest include addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, and issues surrounding gender and sexuality. I am particularly passionate about the intersection of trauma and addiction.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of trauma, and have additional experience with EMDR for addictive and compulsive behaviors.
