Professional statement

Dr. David Mednick is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist currently based in Hackensack, NJ. He received his Doctorate in 1992 from The Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Campus of Yeshiva University. He then completed a 2-yr Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology with Dr. Kenneth Kutner at Bergen Neuropsychology Group. Dr. Mednick worked Full-Time for 30 years at Fairleigh Dickinson University counseling college students and co-directing their Counseling department. Since the Covid-19 Pandemic, he has found that his patients have enjoyed the comfort, convenience & needs of Teletherapy beyond those that it provided just during the isolation/lockdown period. He is happy to now be expanding his practice and continuing to offer Telehealth sessions to new patients.

Dr. Mednick's philosophy is to work with patients on a short-term and goal-oriented manner so you can improve your functioning, comfort, and happiness as soon as possible. Since every person is different, he tailors his approach to each individual and their particular needs to find what works for them. He is very interactive and dynamic in his approach. He works on providing every individual patient with a useful, meaningful, and results-oriented learning & growth experience.

Dr. Mednick provides skilled and decades of extensive experience in the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (and some Eclectic/Psychodynamic Therapy to address deeper/longer term issues), plus Cognitive Remediation when needed for: Anxiety/Stress; Panic Attacks; Depression; Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); Driving and other Phobias; Relationship Issues (any kind of relationship); Mental Health Issues related to Chronic Pain & Autoimmune Disorders; Self-Esteem Issues; Assertiveness issues; Anger Issues; Mild Traumatic Brain Injury; Post-Concussion Syndrome; Issues related to Gender & Sexuality; & more. Dr. M. is a Straight Ally with the LGBTQ+ community.

Message to clients

If you want to accomplish any of the following, I can help you overcome/reduce: negative thoughts and feelings; avoidance; obsessive worrying; anxiety; panic attacks; depressive feelings; feelings of hopelessness and/or helplessness; trauma and/or PTSD (from recent events to old childhood trauma that was never resolved); anger issues; low self-esteem; identity issues; sexual and/or sexual identity issues; cognitive problems from a concussion (such as memory or concentration problems); relationship issues (not just romantic relationships, but relationships of any kind that you have with another person - could be a family member, friend, roommate, boss/supervisor, co-worker, etc).

I will help you to learn to accept the things you cannot change such as chronic illness (but learn to control & live with them to feel better). Learn to become more assertive and speak up for yourself (whether you are too shy, too fearful of certain people, or feel you don't deserve to ask for or complain about anything).

Psychotherapy is a place where you can go and speak to a trained professional who will not judge you, will not just give you advice, and will keep your information confidential.

The ultimate goal I see my job as is to help you, my patient, to become happier & more functional in your life. To ultimately feel like you are living a better life with the new skills & information you've learned about yourself through what we will be discussing and you will learn in our treatment while we are working together.
