Professional statement

Deborah Vara is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Warrenton, VA who works with individuals across the lifespan, with a focus on young adult and adult women. Many of her clients have found great success in their careers or academically, but struggle with trauma, anxiety, or relationships and find it difficult to live a full life. Deborah is particularly sensitive to clients facing moments of anxiety and trauma, like job loss, loss of a relationship, abuse, life transition, illness, performance, adjustment to college, perfection.

Deborah's approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. Deborah is EMDR trained and utilizes trauma-focused interventions. She works to help clients understand their trauma responses to external stressors and internal stressors to begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of clarity, calm, and education to assist in the process of their healing journey.

Deborah is focused on ensuring that her clients see progress within 2-3 months: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, challenging, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. A trauma-informed and anxiety therapist, Deborah is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges, and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion.

Deborah's first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe and heard in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions and local in-person sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.
