Now offering Prime For Life Alcohol & Drug classes, which are required by the Utah courts for cases of DUI charges, with a certificate of completion to meet the court requirements.
As a consumer and a practitioner of mental health treatment I know what it's like to feel your life become overwhelmed, happiness, relationships, and health overshadowed by pain or fear. As an advocate for strength based solutions, I am a dedicated enemy of shame, and we will fight that together. You will never be judged or have to edit what you say in session.
I work with a host of presenting problems, with a particular focus on Trauma. Often we have problems that are triggered by our trauma. Often our problems can traumatize us as well. If you know what it's like to have struggle, or made choices, that feel like they've blown up your life, you should probably give me a call.
I'm also very involved in public education through writing & podcasting. The field of mental health is constantly evolving, and I feel strongly that therapists should be also. Check out my website for an always growing list of resources.
Hit me up on here on Zencare, or give me a call, I'd love to chat.
You deserve success and peace.
Years of Experience: 17 years
Addiction - Addiction is almost always self-medication for trauma or other underlying issues. Important elements to recovering from addiction or dependence problems include reducing shame, understanding ourself, and defining goals and what success should look like. I am a Harm Reduction therapist, and will work with you to create your individual treatment goals. The things you are looking for are healthy, even if we try things that aren’t healthy to meet them.
ADHD - I have Bipolar Disorder & ADHD myself. ADHD is often accompanies by depression and relationship/rejection issues, as well as being at risk for traumatic experiences. Self-acceptance and a strengths based approach is an important part of ADHD treatment.
Autism spectrum disorder - Unfortunately many clinicians seem to be hesitant to engage with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, as if their issues are completely different than others. Although specific training and study are helpful, much of my knowledge about ASD comes from listening to my clients. I began my career in youth services, in a behavioral health unit focused on complicated dual diagnosis. We received the youth who were on the Autism spectrum. Working with these youth is among my favorite memories
Bipolar disorder - I have Bipolar Disorder & ADHD myself, and have worked with mood stabilization, identifying cycles, medication compliance goals, communication, relationship issues, and other elements of Neurodivergence in my own life. I love helping other with living a full life, embracing their strengths while managing their symptoms.
LGBTQIA, gender, & sexuality topics - I am a gender affirming and Queer allied therapist. This is important, as well as the only ethical way to practice. Many individuals also find rejection or religious trauma from other's reactions to their identity & orientation. I work often with Transgendered individuals going through the social, hormonal, and/or surgical Transition/Confirmation process.
Trauma - I am trained in multiple modalities of trauma recovery, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). Modern trauma approaches focus on individualizing a treatment strategy that works for you, instead of forcing you to work for the treatment model. Recovery is possible, and can be even better than you expect.
