Professional statement

Elsie Pena is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Houston, TX who works with young adults and adults. Her expertise lies in helping individuals navigate challenges related to immigration and acculturation, including the stress of discrimination and life transition. Many of Elsie’s clients feel the impacts of intergenerational trauma and conflict, which can sometimes impact the relationships they have with their families. At times, this might result in anxiety, depression, or feelings of shame or worthlessness.

Elsie’s approach to therapy draws from evidence-based therapy modalities including narrative therapy and somatic therapy. In sessions, clients explore their personal histories and begin to make sense of their experiences, including how their bodies have carried their emotions through difficult times. Elsie is an empathetic, culturally sensitive therapist who strives to support clients as they journey towards resilience and comprehensive well-being.

Elsie earned a Master’s degree from the Seminary of the Southwest. She deeply understands the intense emotions that come with major life change and what it’s like to live in a new place, including the grief that comes alongside the joy of settling in a new home.
