Professional statement

Dr. Émilie Ellis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Atlanta, Georgia. They specialize in working with queer and gender diverse clients and survivors of traumatic experiences. Dr. Ellis identifies as queer and uses both she/her and they/them pronouns.

Dr. Ellis draws primarily on narrative therapy, an approach that centers the client's experience of the problem and addresses the influence of systemic oppression on the client's narrative about themselves and the world around them. They are also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and will incorporate those tools as needed.

Dr. Ellis has been an active clinician in the Atlanta area since 2015. In 2018, they moved to Athens to pursue a PhD to further their clinical MFT skills and knowledge, and graduated in 2022.

Sessions are remote only.

Message to clients

I work primarily with queer and gender diverse people who have experienced trauma and are looking to reclaim their lives. This might mean wanting to feel less anxious or depressed, have healthier and more fulfilling relationships, build deeper self-knowledge, or something else entirely. Traumatic experiences can look different for everyone, and in a White supremacist, heteronormative, and transphobic world, queer and gender diverse people often have unique experiences with trauma.

I use a trauma-informed approach to help queer and trans clients navigate their mental health, identity development, and relationships. With you as the expert on your life, I can help you understand how past traumatic experiences might be affecting you today, and give you tools to identify your triggers and respond differently to them.

If you are interested in potentially working together, I invite you to reach out. Email me or call me, and I will get back to you to schedule a time for a check-in to decide if we are a good fit.
