Professional statement

Emily Hester-McCullough is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor, based in Colorado and Washington, who works with adults 18-64, with a focus on women's issues, anxiety and relationship issues. Many of her clients have found they struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their daily lives. Emily is particularly sensitive to clients facing moments of transition, like a move to the city, job loss, burn out, or breakup, when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge.

Emily's approach is rooted in Relational Psychodynamics, Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy that focuses on helping clients understand how their family of origin influences their thinking patterns and emotional responses towards others and creates unhealthy patterns in relationships. She works to help clients understand their response to current circumstances, and begin to tolerate distress and understand their past in order to make changes int he future and choose to respond rather than react to triggers and in the face of change.

Emily is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. A trauma-informed therapist, Emily is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges, and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion.

Emily’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.

Message to clients

Hello! I’m Emily, welcome to my practice! My goal is to work to help others build healthy relationships in their personal and professional lives. I work with Individuals struggling with anxiety and past trauma, as well as, couples using the Gottman method. My goal is to help you discover yourself in new ways and bring awareness to themes in your life and how they relate to your family of origin. I use various methods to help others with anxiety, depression, processing loss and trauma, as well as, family conflict and relationship issues.

Think of me as your self awareness gurue, family role interpreter and boundary builder. Together lets identify the role you play or played in your family that is still being played out in other relationships today. How does this role influence unhealthy cycles? Together we can identify the boundaries that need to be created for a more healthy lifestyle.

No matter your role, you are enough! Let’s dive into how your role in your family unit contributes to unhealthy cycles that have happened in the past or happening now. What is your “no” and what is your “yes”. Sometimes we don’t know what that is, but I’m here to help you figure it out. I’m here to build up your self care and create coping skills!
