Professional statement

In my work as a Mental Health Counselor I have seen change in clients, real change. Whether you are being held hostage by a debilitating addiction, a paralyzing depression, or you just need to sort out life's many challenges, I am here to listen and support you. Becoming a therapist was a natural extension of what I was doing in my first career; I worked in the social services field for many years. My empathic, person-centered approach will help us build a collaborative relationship. In my work, I implement various techniques such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT and Internal Family Systems.

My expertise lies in family and couples therapy, but I also see individuals as well. My experiences come from a variety of different settings. I have worked extensively with addiction. I have worked with clients with severe mental illness, as well as those with personality and mood disorders, psychosis and trauma, and sex and substance addiction.

My main objective is to help the client gain insight into their own behavior. I believe a client's sense of autonomy is essential to the therapy process. My goals as a clinician now remain the same as when I started: To always be present with clients, listen more than I talk, and help guide clients to where they want to go.

Message to clients

My expertise is in family therapy, and couples therapy. but I also see client's in individual therapy as well. My intake process is fairly straightforward and thorough. I think it's vital to understand, early on, if we are a good fit for one another. I come from a psychodynamic frame and will adapt my approach to what the client needs. I have often used other approaches or strategies depending on the client's needs. Progress in therapy is not linear or black and white; the work may take a step back one week and two steps forward the following week. My main objective is to help the client gain insight into their own behavior and decide for themselves how or if they want to make changes. I believe a client's sense of autonomy is essential to the therapy process.
