Heather Genovese is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Licensed Psychoanalyst in Midtown Manhattan. She specializes in anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, as issues pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community and trauma.
Clients often come to Heather when overwhelmed by feelings of depression, anxiety, or general dissatisfaction with their current patterns or life situations. Her approach, which is warm and nonjudgmental, is informed by the open nature of psychoanalysis. For example, she often incorporates dream interpretation to explore possibilities for how the unconscious affects clients’ daily reality. Additionally, as a creative arts therapist, she enjoys using creative endeavors to create a space that fosters self-reflection and understanding.
Heather is especially passionate about helping clients who may have experienced trauma in the past, including adult survivors of sexual abuse. Additionally, she has worked extensively with the LGBTQ+ community on topics ranging from discrimination to navigating the coming out process.
Heather’s hope is that clients take advantage of their time together in sessions to disconnect from the external chaos and pressure of today’s nonstop world, and instead, reconnect with their needs and personal goals. Her office is located in the Columbus Circle area of Manhattan, where she welcomes adults across the lifespan of every orientation, background, and religion.
