Jessica Loftus is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Long Island, NY. Many of Jessica's clients come in when they feel overwhelmed, alone, or stuck in some area of their life. Jessica is particularly passionate about supporting people adjusting to life transitions, those living with depression and/or anxiety as well as individuals healing from a history of trauma.
Jessica is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and is trained in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). However, she incorporates a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy & mindfulness/somatic approaches. Jessica’s goal is to work with you on not only processing the emotional parts of your suffering but on brainstorming active ways to change parts of your life that may no longer serve you as well.
Jessica’s style is warm, accepting and person-centered. She aims to create space for individuals to feel safe by being open and human herself so that a genuine therapeutic relationship can be made. When a client first comes in, we discuss what concerns or issues brought you to therapy and identify areas of change desired.
Jessica Loftus received her masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College in Flushing, NY. She gained experience in various settings including a domestic violence agency, outpatient mental health and substance use clinics, a community residential program for co-occurring disorders and at a group private practice. Jessica currently sees clients entirely remotely via telehealth. Outside of private practice, she enjoys spending time with her fur-baby and working on DIY projects.
Years of Experience: 11 years
Trauma - Working through adverse life experiences or trauma is never about forcing someone to relive or talk about things they're not ready to talk about - it's about meeting them where they are at and slowly unraveling some of the unhealthy habits or beliefs that may have developed as a result of the negative experience(s). My goal is to guide you through the healing process and to help you feel like you again.
Anxiety - I help those struggling with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress and provide tools they can use to manage their symptoms. Anxiety can often prevent us from living our life to the fullest (e.g. - we may avoid certain situations or talk ourselves out of saying or doing certain things for fear of the outcome). My goal is to help you navigate your way through any unhelpful coping patterns (i.e. - avoidance, self-medication, etc.) and learn new ways to manage your stress.
Depression - "You don't think in depression that you've put on a gray veil and are seeing the world through the haze of a bad mood. You think that the veil has been taken away, the veil of happiness, and that now you're seeing truly." - Andrew Solomon Depression is one of the hardest things to work through, especially if it's chronic. I'm here to provide the support and tools to manage it.
Career counseling - I provide support & resources for people who feel stressed or dissatisfied with their career. We explore pathways to personal and professional growth and clarify your career goals in order to initiate change and move towards a more fulfilling career and meaningful work-life balance.
