Professional statement

Jessica Loftus is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Long Island, NY. Many of Jessica's clients come in when they feel overwhelmed, alone, or stuck in some area of their life. Jessica is particularly passionate about serving people adjusting to life transitions, those living with depression and/or anxiety as well as individuals with a history of trauma. She also holds certifications as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (C-DBT) and as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).

In addition to the above certifications, Jessica incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and strengths-based approaches. When people are going through particularly dark periods of their lives, it can be incredibly hard to see any light. Jessica’s goal is to work with you on not only processing the emotional parts of your suffering but on brainstorming active ways to change parts of your life that no longer serve you as well.

Jessica’s style is warm, accepting and person-centered. Her goal is to allow the space for individuals to feel safe by being open and human herself so that a genuine therapeutic relationship can be created. When a client first comes in, we discuss what concerns or issues brought you to therapy and identify areas of change desired.

Jessica Loftus received her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College in Flushing, NY. She gained experience in various settings including a domestic violence agency, outpatient mental health and substance use programs, a community residential program for co-occurring disorders and at a group private practice. Jessica currently sees clients entirely remotely via telehealth. Outside of private practice, she enjoys spending time with her fur-baby and working on DIY projects.

Message to clients

Talking to a stranger about personal issues can be intimidating. Questions like, “will they judge me?” and “is it normal to feel this way?” can creep into our heads preventing us from reaching out when he need help the most. The great news is this – therapy is a judgment-free zone! If you believe you are falling behind in some area of your life, be it work, relationships, family, etc. I am here to validate what you’re feeling and to help you find solutions. My goal is to help you realize your hidden “superpowers” and to develop the tools you need to build a more balanced and meaningful life. Therapy is paced differently for each person; some only see me for a few sessions to work through interpersonal conflicts while others may have deeper issues such as trauma that take more time to resolve and process. Again, no judgement. Each person is unique and therapy is not cookie-cut. I work with each person on building their resiliency so they can overcome and manage whatever challenges comes their way. From depression, low self-esteem, addictive issues, anxiety and trauma I am here to walk you through the darkness to the other side. Let’s team-up and work through it together!

Specialties

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - By using empathy, compassion and honesty I work with client's on exploring both the root cause(s) for their depression as well as identify new ways to coping so they are thriving and not just surviving. I like to incorporate bibliotherapy, art and music therapy to help reinforce what is discussed in our sessions in addition to traditional approaches.

Trauma - I have experience working with people who are survivors of intimate partner violence, discrimination, childhood abuse/neglect and more. Working on trauma is never about forcing someone to relive or talk about things they're not ready to talk about - it's about meeting you where you are at and slowly unraveling some of the unhealthy habits that may have developed as a result of the negative experience. My goal is to guide you through the healing process and to help you feel more empowered

Career counseling - Support around personal and professional growth; clarifying career goals and implementing steps toward building a fulfilling career and meaningful work-life balance
