Professional statement

There was a time when I felt trapped by anxiety, depression, and overwhelm. I spent years feeling like I was constantly reacting to the world around me—easily overwhelmed, shutting down, and unsure how to move forward. I was living in a hypervigiliant state - always on edge, feeling unsafe in relationships and in my aloneness. This was also followed with depressive states followed by shame and guilt.

Working with a Practitioner in Somatic Experiencing has transformed my emotional well being by helping my brain and body recognize safety and reducing my sensitivity to unpleasant sensations and arousal. I now feel more in control, I welcome unpleasant bodily sensations when they show up, and I transformed my body as a safe space for meaningful life experiences and relationships.

I’m currently a student in Somatic Experiencing and would love to support you in creating a relationship with your body that fosters healing and connection. Trauma is not the event - it is how our central nervous system has processed it - or - was not allowed to process it!

Message to clients

Here is how Somatic Experiencing can be utilized to help heal trauma in our bodies:

-Work with “flight, flight or freeze” responses that show up uninvited

-Work through fears such as flying, heights, driving over bridges and other fears that you notice in your system

-Individuals who have been in motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, war, genocide etc

-Individuals preparing for surgeries, dental procedures, pre and post surgery experiences

-Pre and Perinatal trauma

-Individuals who have experienced a fall that has left them feeling disorganized or disoriented

-Sexual trauma and boundary work

-Post anesthesia experiences

-Experiences of horror - witnessing or being exposed to something shocking

-Emotional/ relational trauma - abandonment, severe loss or death, divorce, substance use in the environment, discrimination of any kind etc

-Substance use and recovery - working through bodily sensations around triggers and use

-Extreme feelings of shame and guilt

-Attachment styles and creating healthy secure attachment in relationships

-War Veterans integrating back to home - working through orienting back to sounds, feeling a sense of safety again, connecting with loved ones, etc

In our sessions, we will:

-Learn to track bodily sensations

-Explore gentle movements and exercises

-Develop resources for self regulation

-Slowly process traumatic experiences at a pace that feels right for your nervous system

-Integrate new experiences of safety and coherence
