Professional statement

Dr. Jessica Shine is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Marietta, GA. She welcomes young adults and adults into her practice, including couples, who struggle with their emotions inhibiting important aspects of their lives. Many of Dr. Shine’s clients find that their anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship conflicts interrupt their ability to feel in control of their lives. Often, her clients’ mental health has been negatively impacted by trauma, leaving them with unconscious trauma reactions.

Dr. Shine’s approach to therapy incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness work. She teaches clients how to become more self-aware so they can identify what’s happening internally for themselves, with the goal of engaging effective coping strategies before reaching the point of overwhelm. When working with couples, Dr. Shine utilizes the Gottman Method to show clients the power that emotions have when it comes to bonding. Sessions with Dr. Shine are collaborative, creative, and exploratory as clients talk honestly about how they’re doing and what’s happening in their lives.

Dr. Shine earned a doctorate in Education in Community Care and Counseling-Traumatology from Liberty University. She is passionate about helping others and is a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, Prolonged Exposure Therapy as well as Gottman therapist. She is a down-to-earth yet intentional therapist who seeks to empower her clients to live healthy, happy lives.

Message to clients

Hi, my name is Dr. Jessica M. Shine and affectionately called Dr. J by my amazing clients! I am caring and passionate about my purpose to help you heal past traumas and navigate through life’s difficult experiences and transitions. I love working with people from all walks of life and growing our therapeutic relationship in a non-judgmental, safe, and supportive environment. I strive to provide you with the necessary tools for your growth and success as your therapist, accountability partner, shoulder to cry on, and cheerleader! I’m here to connect the dots and help you understand how your childhood, family dynamics, intimate relationships, life experiences, and trauma all factor in the life decisions you make.

When working with clients, I find myself helping clients that tackle issues such as trauma, familial dysfunction, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and intimate relationships. Additionally, I hold level 1 and level 2 training of Gottman Methods Couple Therapy. This therapy is designed to equip therapists with specialized knowledge and skills in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I also have extensive training and certification in Prolonged Exposure Therapy, one of the most highly effective treatments for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among many other mental health needs.

I’d love the opportunity to meet you and help you blossom into the person you desire to be. If you’re looking for an authentic, down-to-earth therapist who is ambitious, passionate, caring, and intentional about your healing, you found her!
