Karl is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #136098; supervised by Mike Chang, LMFT 86321. Experienced in working the trauma, adoption, attachment, and parenting, Karl uses a variety of techniques in order to assist you in the pursuit of your goals. Additionally he is trained in Brainspotting and able to use this model through telehealth.
Holding a Master’s Degree from Touro University Worldwide in Marriage and Family Therapy, along with an Individualized Master’s Degree from Goddard College in Adoption Studies, Karl has well over a decade of experience in working with individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging issues. As an adoption specialist and former director of a foster and adoption agency, Karl is well versed in trauma, attachment, relinquishment, reunification, searching, relationships and parenting adopted and foster children. Though his background is in the adoption arena, he has a breadth of experience in working with many other life circumstances including depression, anxiety, couples, career, sexuality, gender identity, family issues and more.

Adoption & foster care - Support around pre- and post-adoption challenges including family dynamics, challenging behaviors, attachment issues, and navigation of the child welfare system or adoption agencies
Attachment issues - Development of effective relational and communication skills; insight into family attachment patterns;fostering healthy family relationships.
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Childhood trauma - Learning how traumatic events in childhood can translate into adulthood; processing through difficult memories with the goal of moving past the experience and lingering symptoms
