Professional statement

Karmen Tuivai is a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in Provo, Utah. Many of Karmen’s clients come to see her when experiencing anxiety and/or hopelessness. Karmen is passionate about serving people who have experienced trauma, whether it is a severe traumatic experience, or something that your brain is not able to let go of. She has worked with perfectionism and people who struggle with self-love and acceptance. Karmen has advanced training in the area of OCD. She has extensive experience with grief, loss and people who struggle to find resiliency with their struggles.

Karmen is trained in EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. EMDR is a way to work through old memories of trauma that your brain seems stuck on. It allows you to process emotions and find relief from suffering. Acceptance Commitment Therapy is proven to help with OCD and intrusive thoughts that cause anxiety. In session, Karmen focuses what you are experiencing and methods for you to reduce the stress and discomfort you may be feeling. This approach allows clients to find hope and courage to go through the things that are most difficult for them.

Karmen's style is warm, non-judgemental and validating. When clients first start therapy, will establish a strong relationship and comfortable environment where they feel safe and heard.

Karmen received their MSW from Brigham Young University-Provo. She has recently worked at the Utah State Hospital with clients who were experiencing trauma and PTSD. Outside of private practice, she loves hiking and being in nature. She is learning to oil paint. She loves to travel and find new places to adventure. She loves to spend time with her husband and two labs, Gracie and Butter. Karmen is accepting clients online only.

Message to clients

Looking for ways to find Hope? Sometimes life brings us unexpected challenges. I have the ability to listen in a genuine way, hold what is difficult for you to manage such as intrusive thoughts or memories of trauma, and work through it with you in a way that helps you have peace.

I have been trained in EMDR. Things can happen that are out of your control, and may change how you view yourself, others, and the world around you. These may be events such as, but not limited to: childhood abuse and/or neglect, a motor vehicle collision, complicated grief, suicide of a loved one, chronic pain and illness, or a natural disaster. You may feel alone, stuck, empty, confused, or angry, and I am here to support you on the next step in your journey.

By creating a safe space for you to explore and process your experiences and build on your own strengths, we can develop new insights and skills together. I have extensive training in trauma-informed modalities such as: EMDR, ACT, DBT, Somatic Experiencing Exposure Therapy and Grief work. Because life gets busy, finding time for counselling can be difficult. That’s why I offer telehealth counselling, enabling you to access sessions from the privacy of your home or work space, through a phone call or secure video sessions. Having a therapist you can truly trust and connect with can assist you in making changes to find the life you truly want to live.
