Kathleen Silver is a psychotherapist in Summit, NJ, working with individuals of all ages and stages, as well as couples, and people coping with illness. She specializes in anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and relationship concerns.
In her work with couples, Kathleen uses The Gottman Method to help couples clarify unhealthy relationship habits and develop new ways to communicate and reconnect.
Kathleen also works with individuals dealing with cancer or other serious medical issues. Having recovered from cancer herself, she brings both personal and professional experience to her work with individuals and families navigating serious illness. Kathleen believes in the power of the mind-body connection, and coaches clients in mindfulness techniques to create self-compassion and stress-reduction.
Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approaches, Kathleen helps clients explore the connections between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. With insight on these connections, clients are able to make changes that reduce anxiety, increase their sense of productivity, and create healthier connections with people in their lives.
Kathleen received her BA from Georgetown University and her MSW from NYU Silver School of Social Work. She is currently enrolled in externship training for Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy.
