Master of Arts (MA) - Clinical Mental Health Counseling Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit, MHC-LP Masters in Divinity, MDiv Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsLana Hurst is a compassionate mental health counselor dedicated to supporting her clients' journeys towards discovering a more courageous, wholehearted, and authentic life. Many of Lana's clients are navigating questions about gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, spiritual issues, and/or trauma—especially spiritual and religious trauma. In therapy, Lana curates a brave space with clients by cultivating a strong alliance with clients so that they can journey through challenging and frightening emotional landscapes.
Her therapeutic approach draws from various modalities including psychodynamic, client-centered, internal family systems, cognitive behavioral, family systems, and narrative therapies so that clients can become increasingly aware of their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and how they all work together within various systems like culture and society. By combining these approaches, Lana recognizes that who we are is always shaped by the cultures and societies in which we are born.
With a background in religion and spirituality, Lana also brings a holistic perspective to her work. She uses her own experiences as a trans woman as a launching pad along with with queer and feminist theories to help clients who are on the margins of society, relationships, religion, etc. All of this creates a unique combination of personal experiences and professional training making Lana an invaluable resource for clients seeking compassionate guidance on their journey of self-discovery and growth.
Through her caring and tailored approach to therapy, Lana empowers individuals to better understand stories that have shaped their various identities and the paths they have already chosen in life. As those stories become clearer, the future possibilities also become clearer. Clients can move from following a script to being able to imagine new paths to take—paths that might have once seemed impossible can slowly but surely open up through the healing that occurs on the journey.
