Professional statement

Lana Hurst, MHC-LP, helps individuals and couples navigate identity, relationships, and the emotional patterns that shape their lives. She specializes in working with LGBTQ+ individuals, those exploring gender identity, and people healing from religious trauma. Many of her clients come to therapy feeling disconnected from themselves, struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. Lana provides a reflective and supportive space to better understand these struggles and move toward meaningful change.

In her work with couples, Lana helps partners deepen emotional connection, navigate conflict, and improve communication. She is especially attuned to the unique dynamics of LGBTQ+ relationships, mixed-faith partnerships, and couples recovering from religious trauma or family-based shame. Whether couples are working through recurring tensions or exploring new ways of relating, Lana guides them in identifying unspoken patterns and building a more fulfilling partnership.

Lana’s approach to therapy is insight-driven and relational. She helps clients explore the deeper layers of their experiences—how past relationships, cultural expectations, and unconscious patterns influence emotions and behaviors today. By working through these dynamics, clients can move beyond cycles of distress and develop a stronger sense of self. She also integrates EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support healing from trauma and the emotional weight of past experiences.

Lana offers in-person therapy in New York City and virtual sessions for clients across New York State. Her work is best suited for individuals and couples seeking therapy that is both reflective and transformative—whether they’re untangling identity questions, healing from the past, or looking to strengthen their relationships.

Message to clients

What if healing is possible? What if the way you feel now isn’t how it has to stay? You are not broken, unworthy, or beyond hope. No matter what you’ve been through, I believe in your capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding. Sometimes, we just need the right space to make sense of our experiences and uncover the paths that lead to a fuller, more authentic life.

I see therapy as a place to slow down and listen—to the parts of you that feel stuck, unheard, or disconnected. Together, we explore the patterns shaping your emotions, relationships, and self-perception. By getting curious about where these patterns come from, new possibilities emerge—ones that may have felt out of reach before.

Healing doesn’t mean erasing the past. It means understanding how it lives within you and finding new ways forward. My role is to support you in this process, helping you recognize your strength, resilience, and the wisdom already within you. Whether you’re navigating identity, relationships, trauma, or life’s uncertainties, you don’t have to do it alone.

Therapy is a space to wonder, explore, and reimagine what’s possible for you. We were never meant to face our journeys alone—and you don’t have to.
