Laura Mackner is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 20 years of experience in chronic health conditions – managing symptoms and their effect on life - as well as anxiety and depression which often come with them. She developed a particular interest in tinnitus when she worked at the OSU Speech and Hearing Clinic, where she saw how tinnitus can affect every aspect of life, and how frustrating the search for tinnitus treatment can be. People who meet her often have questions about how a psychologist can help the ringing in their ears.
The goal of tinnitus treatment is habituation, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) gives you tools to develop habituation and calm your brain's response to the sound. Scientific studies have shown that CBT changes brain structure and function through neuroplasticity. Laura meets you where you are in your tinnitus journey and partners with you for a specialized treatment approach.
Laura helps children, teens and adults with health problems (not just tinnitus!) find strategies that work for them, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and other research-supported treatments.
