Professional statement

Leonna Rae Chodos is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is licensed in California and Texas and has been a therapist for over 10 years. Leonna is a dedicated tele-health therapist. All her sessions are conducted via a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform.

Leonna works with individuals and couples. Many of Leonna’s clients come in to address anxiety, relationship stressors, difficult life decisions, life coaching, and trauma. Leonna is particularly passionate about serving couples, parents, racial/ethnically diverse populations, individuals contemplating significant life decisions/changes. She also has advanced training in the areas of anxiety disorders, major depression, and relational issues.

Leonna is trained in Satir, CBT, Narrative, Humanistic, Strength based, Attachment, and Holistic therapies. These treatment approaches examine a variety of areas such as attachment style, family of origin history, language style/ways a person communicates, core beliefs, and self-esteem. Clients can explore what is working and beneficial to their wellbeing and what needs to be improved, healed or released in order to make space for healthier beliefs and behaviors. In session, Leonna focuses on active listening exercises, breathing exercises, grounding tools, journaling, book recommendations, worksheets, articles, and psycho-education. These modalities support clients in reaching their goals, feeling more aligned with their core beliefs and values, and being more confident in their decision making. Clients also feel more at ease with themselves and others.

Leonna's style is thoughtful, transparent, and engaging. When clients first start therapy, Leonna works to create an emotionally safe, comfortable and non-judgmental therapeutic alliance with her clients.

Leonna received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. She has worked at local community centers, serving individuals, families, couples, teens and children. Outside of private practice, she enjoys reading, game nights with friends, exercising and baking for her family.

Message to clients

Are you a parent, couple, or individual struggling with your relationships? Are you having difficulty communicating your feelings, needs, and wants? Or, when you do, it come out as frustration, anger, and resentment? Struggling with these issues can feel overwhelming and disheartening. I work in-depth with my clients to help bridge the communication gap, increase effective communication skills, reduce combative and reactionary behaviors in order to promote healthy dialogue, build trust and deepen connection.

I practice person-centered, Satir based therapy. I encourage my clients to express their thoughts, feelings, needs and wants. I believe healing and growth takes place when clients feel comfortable speaking their truth and having the space to decide what they need and want in their lives. Therapy should always feel safe, collaborative and progress at the client’s pace. My hope for all my clients is for them not only to achieve their goals, but also to leave therapy feeling stronger, more self assured, and hopeful about their relationships and their future.
