Dr. Livia Freier, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuroscientist serving adults across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She works with anxiety, adult ADHD, depression, trauma, and life transitions, and offers couples therapy for partners caught in recurrent conflict, disconnection, or the aftermath of betrayal.
Many of her clients are already trying hard on their own. They have read the books, downloaded the apps, and white-knuckled through anxious nights, attention struggles, or a stuck relationship, yet still feel caught in patterns they can name but cannot seem to change. In her view, this is a signal, not a failure: these patterns live in parts of the nervous system that talk alone does not reach.
Dr. Freier brings more than twenty years of neuroscience research on emotional regulation, attention, and stress physiology into her clinical work. She integrates cognitive behavioral therapy with emotionally focused therapy, attachment-based approaches, and relational psychodynamic modalities, selected for each specific client rather than applied as a protocol.
Her practice draws faculty and researchers from Brown University, clinicians from Rhode Island Hospital, RISD artists and students, attorneys, founders, and high-performing professionals across the Boston suburbs. MindWell Psychology is located on the East Side of Providence in the College Hill neighborhood, steps from Brown and RISD. Dr. Freier sees clients in person at the Providence office and through secure telehealth statewide in Rhode Island and across Massachusetts.
Dr. Freier is an out-of-network provider. The practice provides superbills and supports clients seeking insurance reimbursement. New inquiries are answered personally, usually within one business day, and a brief complimentary consultation is offered before any first session.
