Liz Ross, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Houston, Texas. She is also licensed by APIT to conduct video sessions in over 40 states in the U.S. Her practice centers around helping clients to thrive in the face of unexpected life stressors. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Ross worked as a clinical psychologist at TIRR Memorial Hermann where she counseled patients hospitalized with serious injuries. Many of these individuals had never spoken to a mental health professional until they were faced with these unique challenges. Dr. Ross's role was to help patients effectively cope with adverse experiences and to live happy, fulfilling lives. In her private practice, Dr. Ross uses techniques and strategies supported by research to help clients to overcome adverse medical events, trauma, and general life stress. Other relevant clinical experience includes working as a staff psychologist in the pain departments at Baylor College of Medicine and M.D. Anderson and developing the mental health program at The Orchard on the Brazos, a residential substance abuse treatment center.
Dr. Ross's primary areas of expertise are Health Psychology and Trauma. She specializes in sleep disorders including insomnia (using CBT-i), chronic pain management including headaches and migraines, adjustment to chronic illness, trauma, stress management, substance abuse, relationship issues, and adjustment to major life events. Dr. Ross has specialized training in these areas and is involved in continuing education to stay up to date on the latest advancements. Within the past year, Dr. Ross has received additional specialized training in virtual reality exposure therapy and is pleased to offer this service for treating fears and phobias.
In 2023, Dr. Ross was elected as the president of the Houston Psychological Association (HPA) and has expanded her practice to include two other clinicians and a doctoral student.
