Professional statement

Dr. Maria Ocampo, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in both New York and California (PSY 35755) who provides individual and couples therapy for adults. She works with clients navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, and life transitions, with a particular focus on women’s mental health and life transitions. Dr. Ocampo is committed to creating a compassionate, collaborative space where clients can better understand themselves, build effective coping tools, and move toward meaningful change.

Her integrative approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), alongside psychodynamic techniques. This allows her to address both immediate symptoms and deeper emotional patterns, helping clients explore how early experiences and relational dynamics shape current behavior. Dr. Ocampo tailors her work to meet each individual’s goals, balancing insight with practical strategies for growth.

She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP–Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. Her clinical training includes an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where, among other experiences, she provided care for 9/11 first responders. She also conducted research at Stanford Children’s Hospital focused on the mental health of NICU parents and has served as faculty at Mount Sinai, where she remains involved as affiliate faculty.

Dr. Ocampo offers remote therapy sessions to adults located in California and New York. Her telehealth practice provides flexible, secure access to care from the comfort of home. She is currently completing specialized training in perinatal mental health and remains engaged in ongoing education to support her clients with the most effective, evidence-based care available.

Message to clients

Before we begin our work together, I want you to know that reaching out for support is a meaningful and courageous act. Starting therapy can bring up a mix of emotions—uncertainty, hope, even fear—and all of that is welcome here. I see therapy as a collaborative process where you don’t have to “have it all figured out” to begin. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply ready for something to shift, we’ll start exactly where you are.

My hope is that this becomes a space where you can show up fully and honestly, without judgment. In our work, we’ll explore not just what’s painful, but what’s possible. I’m interested in both the deeper patterns that may be shaping your experience and the practical steps you can take to feel more grounded and empowered in your daily life. I aim to balance insight and action—to help you understand your story while building tools that support real, lasting change.

I believe therapy is not only about reducing suffering, but about expanding your sense of agency, connection, and meaning. You don’t have to do this alone. I look forward to walking alongside you as you move toward what matters most.
