Professional statement

Max Casero is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Austin, TX. They’re passionate about working with the LGBTQ community, as well as those with neurodiversity, and they work with teenagers, young adults, and adults as well as couples and families. Many of Max’s clients find themselves overwhelmed by emotions like anxiety, stress, or trauma reactions. They begin therapy as a way to process through what’s happening in their lives and find tools that can help them live comfortable, healthy lives.

Max’s approach to therapy draws from Restorative Practices, which empowers clients to hold themselves accountable for their actions. Clients also benefit from therapy approaches like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness therapy, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. They learn more about who they are, where they come from, and how they can better cope when feeling distressed. Max’s style is laid back, honest, and genuine. They use different approaches in sessions depending on the needs of their client.

Max earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. They previously worked in community mental health and in the school setting, where they supported the mental health of countless individuals and families to help them live authentic and comfortable lives.

Message to clients

Therapy is hard. You look at most therapist's websites and they're all trees and nature and the ocean and zen; you can practically hear the bees buzzing and feel a butterfly land on your nose. Calming and peaceful, and yes, that is the end goal of therapy - but it definitely isn't the journey.

My job as your therapist is to walk alongside you on your epic quest of personal growth: to listen when you've got a story to tell, to lend a hand when you need some support, to teach when you're ready to learn, to laugh when it's messy and that's all you can do, and to celebrate when you've climbed a mountain or slayed the dragon.

Some things that you can expect from me each session: safety and support, respect and trust, openness and honesty, transparency, my genuine self showing up each session, containment and validation for your big feelings, sitting in your discomfort when it's time to learn and grow, role play and practice, commitment to your goals and growth.

We will do work together, and it won't always be fun or easy. As a quote from one of my favorite movies goes, "it's the hard that makes it great." And at the end of the day, I promise you'll leave better and more whole then when you started.
