Professional statement

Melissa is a mental health counselor associate at PVD Psychological Associates where she offers individual therapy to college students and adults. Her areas of expertise include ADHD, LGBTQIA affirming care, anxiety, depression, and relationships. She identifies as a skills based therapist and works best with clients who are motivated for change and are interested in continuing the work of therapy in between sessions.

She draws from her training in evidence-based practice (CBT, IFS, executive functioning strategies, and mindfulness based approaches) in her work with clients.

Message to clients

I am honored that you are considering working with me. I ultimately want to empower my clients to learn coping skills and therapy techniques so that they can become their own therapists, so to speak. I also am deeply committed to working with clients to help them live their lives more in line with their personal values and with more authenticity.

If you choose to proceed with therapy with me, we will work together to better understand what is maintaining undesired patterns in life and then figure out what specific skills will best help you make your desired changes. We will focus on goal setting and frequent check ins about the effectiveness of our work. While I do consider myself a skills based therapist, I also explore past experiences. Through exploring the influence of family and personal history, I will help you to embrace your life, set and attain goals, and become your true and authentic self.

I would love to talk more and get this amazing journey started. I look forward to working with you!
