Professional statement

Dr. Paul-Roy Taylor is a multinationally licensed psychologist with a private practice in Los Angeles. He specializes in sex and relationship issues, and he frequently writes for publication, lectures, and conducts workshops on these topics throughout the community. Clients often choose him for this expertise to address their sex and intimacy concerns, as well as struggles with peer, romantic, and family relationships. Dr. Taylor also has advanced experience treating behavioral addiction and substance use. He has worked in nearly all levels of care from outpatient to inpatient-residential. Dr. Taylor is particularly passionate about working with members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Bowenian differentiation therapy is Dr. Taylor's primary approach. This method tackles long-standing obstacles, fosters self-confrontation, manages daily anxieties by harnessing them as opportunities for growth, and carries the ultimate goal of living life in the way that makes the most sense for you and your needs. He also utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques to address concrete symptoms that often exist initially in treatment. He has advanced training in motivational interviewing to help maximize your innate desire to move forward.

Core to Dr. Taylor's style are objectivity, thoughtfulness, a healthy bit of confrontation, and always some humor. Dr. Taylor believes successful therapy is therapy that ends, and he helps clients set realistic, achievable goals met by developing fundamental skills that help clients thrive after therapy is complete.

Dr. Taylor earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles and his BA in Linguistics and Psychology from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). His most recent staff position was as Substance Abuse Specialist for a collection of federally funded community health clinics throughout Los Angeles. Dr. Taylor is also a licensed psychologist in France (ADELI #759384944) and is available for telehealth to individuals therein.

Message to clients

In every challenge, there's an opportunity to help you create the life you want to live.

So many of my clients look around at their careers, relationships, and behaviors and find themselves wondering, "How did I get here?" From reliance on substances to decompress or distract from problems; struggling to develop or maintain romantic relationships; or just not living the life they know they can have. I aim for clients to make fundamental change. Once you start taking charge of your life, you never stop.

Therapy isn't easy. If change were safe and easy, everyone would be living their most optimal lives. Therapy is about taking healthy risks, facing tough challenges, and tackling short-term discomfort for long-term, satisfying growth and personal fulfillment. But I will be there with you along the way, helping you develop your innate ability to solve these problems and move toward your ultimate goals.
