Professional statement

Dr. O’Mara is a clinical psychologist with 13 years of education and training at 12 years of work experience. She has worked in universities and hospitals in addition to her own practice. She is a speaker and published author.

Dr. O'Mara‘s specialty areas include trauma and PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Dr. O'Mara uses evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. While rooted in evidence based treatments, Dr. O'Mara believes that one of the strongest outcomes of successful treatment is the therapeutic relationship. Words she lives and practices by are “What most people need is a really good listening to.” (Mary Lou Casey). Having a safe person to talk about your difficulties can be incredibly healing.

Dr. O’Mara will not simply nod her head, however. She is a very interactive therapist who uses questions and suggestions to help guide treatment. She will also assign you in between session homework to speed up the healing process.

Hello and welcome to my page! You have taken the first step towards your healing journey, and I applaud you for that.

I have wanted to be a psychologist since my teenage years and truly believe this is my calling in life. I am very passionate about helping people reach their full potential, not just getting rid of symptoms. I hope you will find me to be a caring and compassionate psychologist to help you navigate whatever it is you are going through.

I am a very egalitarian therapist. I do not believe in “I’m the doctor, you’re the patient. I will tell you what to do, and you will get better.“ I see us as a team. I have expertise in mental health treatment and you have expertise in you and what works best for your individual needs. Together, we form a team to help you get to a better place.

I would be honored to walk alongside you and guide you from surviving to thriving.
