Dr. Ruben Hopwood is a Licensed Psychologist at Hopwood Counseling & Consulting, LLC in East Cambridge, Massachusetts. He works with people of all genders around issues of identity with a special interest in helping clients explore the role of masculinity in their lives and relationships. Dr. Hopwood often integrates a spiritual lens to help clients navigate questions of belonging, purpose, and higher meaning. Dr. Hopwood is particularly skilled at exploring the role of religion within the LGBTQIA community, where he helps clients address the feelings and behaviors that arise from internalized shaming or rejecting messages.
Dr. Hopwood offers an open and accepting place for individuals to process a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. In addition to traditional talk therapy, Dr. Hopwood is dedicated to providing gender-affirming care to folks at all stages of gender exploration, including referrals to support medical confirmation.
Dr. Hopwood uses an integrative approach that equally focuses on cultivating insight and strengthening coping skills. He helps clients to develop a mindfulness practice that makes sense in their daily life and can be drawn upon in moments of distress to remain grounded. Dr. Hopwood gently guides clients to examine their past in order to identify the core beliefs that can guide them forward in the face of larger existential questions.
Outside of his counseling practice, Dr. Hopwood is a clinical consultant to mental health and medical professionals on gender diversity and spiritually integrated care and is a visiting researcher at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University.
Dr. Hopwood is a nationally certified LGBT Business Enterprise (LGBT minority-owned business). He is also a Certified Provider of care under the World Professional Association for Transgender Heath's Standards of Care, version 7.
