Professional statement

Sarah Novak is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with individuals ages 18+, with a focus on eating disorders/disordered eating and trauma. Her clients have often found it challenging to navigate social norms and diet culture to find balance in their relationships with food, exercise, and their bodies. Oftentimes, these challenges have impacted mood, anxiety, relationships, and connections to hobbies/interests. Some individuals may have also been impacted by trauma or stressors that have made a significant impact on their lives and their ability to achieve their goals. Sarah works with clients to explore negative core beliefs that have hindered the establishment of relationships with others. She believes that every person has the right to a supported path of self-acceptance and self-appreciation.

Sarah has an eclectic approach, pulling from her training in various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Sarah’s approach is warm, kind, and patient. It is her goal to provide a judgment-free space to allow clients to process their concerns as well as their achievements. Sarah’s hope is to teach her clients tools and strategies that can be applied in many areas of their lives.

Sarah earned her Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University. She gained experience working in community mental health, community health, homeless outreach, and in the private practice setting. Sarah offers the flexibility and comfort of virtual therapy appointments and is welcoming new clients to her online practice.

Message to clients

Being an adult is hard and complicated and no one really prepares you for it. Whether it’s navigating relationships, finances, career, friendships, or even overall values and goals, it can feel confusing and overwhelming to sort through all of the competing messages out there. You may have been influenced by your childhood experiences, past relationships, or even past trauma. You may have even created core negative beliefs about yourself such as “I’m not good enough” or “I have to be responsible for everything” through which you filter information and experiences. I have experience treating a wide variety of mental health concerns and have specialized training in trauma work and eating disorders.

Beginning the counseling process can be intimidating and overwhelming at first, but it is my goal to offer genuine support and help in each step of the process by creating a space that is safe and encouraging. The relationship between client and therapist is crucial in this work and will be prioritized throughout as we build trust and connection. Whether there are pressing present concerns, or patterns from the past that have hindered, we will work together to address and adjust behaviors and thoughts. My goal is to work collaboratively with you to make sure that you feel heard and valued throughout the entire process.
