Professional statement

Shelby is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Rhode Island. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Miami and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University in 2011. Since that time, Shelby has been providing counseling services in a variety of settings including home care, hospitals, agencies and private practice.

Shelby believes that we all deserve balance and contentment. In order to achieve this, she utilizes a holistic approach, looking at the person as a whole in terms of their body, mind, spirit, community, etc. Shelby’s humor adds levity to sessions when it is needed.

Shelby’s compassionate approach allows for a safe and trusting environment for clients. She enjoys connecting with women through their transitions of motherhood, identity, relationships and self-esteem.

Message to clients

Motherhood has shifted your roles. The vision of the person you once were is blurry and you’re longing to regain focus. Role transitions can be difficult to balance. And you find yourself wanting to soften old patterns or reframe the unhealthy self talk we learned from our own childhood.

You may have found that motherhood has shone a light on a need for perfectionism, being a catalyst for anxiety or depression. Therapy can aid in the process of healing and growth.

If you feel like counseling might help, feel free to contact me. Our first step will be a phone call to briefly discuss what made you reach out. We will schedule a face-to-face meeting to get to know each other and ensure that you feel I will be the right fit for you.
