Professional statement

Sherry Gillmore is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Corte Madera, CA. Sherry works with adults in the individual, couple, or family setting. Many of Sherry’s clients attend therapy because they want to make change in their lives, whether that’s change in their relationships or change in their addiction behaviors. Often, these two challenges are connected to one another. They struggle to find healthier coping strategies, leaving them to resort to toxic relationship patterns or alcohol or drug use. They suffer from people pleasing, always wanting to make their loved ones happy, which often comes at their own expense. They want to take care of themselves but also feel ashamed that they need help.

Sherry helps these clients to prioritize their own mental health and begin working on feeling happier in their lives. She practices thought-based therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). These therapy approaches help individuals understand how their thought patterns can lead to feelings of shame, which can then impact how they treat others and themselves. Clients learn how to avoid negative self-talk and to see their own resilience. Sherry also incorporates mindfulness techniques into her work with clients, giving them multiple tools to use to regulate their emotions.

Sherry has personal experience handling addiction and codependency. She understands the power of recovery and finding ways to live a better life. Her goal is to provide clients with the space they need to begin their journey of growth.
